Wrong forum. This is for Teachers of Primary and Post Primary schools and Lecturers.

I think you'd need to apply to youthreach or the plc with your hairdressing qualification. I don't think a specific qualification is needed but it would be beneficial to have a certificate in further education and training. ( level 7 on the NFQ).

Perfectly fine place to post. We cover specialist teachers in PLC colleges too.
OP. contact your local Youthreach or PLC centre. They will let you know what route you can take. There is also an option to teach Hairdressing in the Beauty and Leisure option of Leaving Cert. Applied.

Just apply to the ads from ETBs.

You should register with the Teaching Council.

Where does it say that this forum is for primary and secondary teachers only? Further ed teachers are just as decent and competent educators as primary and secondary educators, they dont require a separate forum.

OP - If you have a third level degree you can do a HDIP in adult and further education - this will permit you to work in further education and youthreach. As hairdressing is a trade, you might not have a third level but would be best to contact your local ETB and request to speak to somebody, or your ETBs guidance counsellor will have the information you need.

I don't think I can register with the teaching council. I've just completed my QQI level 6 train the trainer. At least it's some form of a training qualification.

These training jobs are very hard to come by.

You can register under further education. Have you taken on any advice given to you here? If you had youd know you can register.

You only register under further education if you have degree. The op only has a level 6 certificate.

I think the best to is to contact HR in an ETB to see what their exact requirements are.

I thought you can still register under further ed without a degree? I recently finished working with an FE teacher who had no qualifications but was registered with teaching council under FE.

Just looking for help as I know nothing about teaching. I have registered with the ETB. All plc colleges and youthreachs are on summer holidays. I hava no idea I could register under further education... that's why I have asked for help. I just assumed because I only have a trade Cert i wouldn't be able to do that. I did not post this to be talked down to. Thanks for your help!

Sorry, I didnt mean to come across abruptly. As far as I know you can register under FE, I understand changes were brought in in 2013 in which FE teachers were now required to have a recognised teaching qualification but as far as I know it's not been implemented.
Im a recent graduate of a further ed teacher training course and im aware that many of my fellow students received full registration under FE with a masters and no teacher training(they were told they didnt need a teacher training by teaching council) others with only a BA and no masters received conditional registration until they received teaching qualification. Conditional registration allows you to teach but under the unqualified rate.(lower pay scale)
I do remember someone from my course asking a lecturer about hairdressers/beauty therapists etc getting registered with teaching council and there is a way around it.
Youthreach and further education centres will most likely be closed but ETB's stay open during Summer months and you may be able to get an appointment with your local ETB guidance counselor which is a free service available to the public. If you pop in or give them a ring and ask about it im sure they will be happy to help and they will have all the information you need.
    Apologies again for previous post.
