    Hi folks,

Is this a bargain worth getting or are Aldi tools junk?

I rarely use a drill other than for very light work.

    Thanks

Pass on it. Wait for An 18 v battery one

It'd be perfect for "very light work", you can't go wrong for €35, 3 year guarantee and some screwdriver and drill bits thrown it.

It'll drill plasterboard, light wood & make furniture assembly quicker.

However it won't make a dent it concrete or brick, you'd need a hammer action drill for that.

I bought it last year and it’s still going although it really struggles with anything more then very light DIY.

I wouldn’t buy it again tbh..

    Thanks folks.

I borrowed one for now so given that the general consensus is that it's not up to much I'll pass on it

    Hey

I was looking at this drill today, so from the gist of this thread I'm guessing it would not be much good to me. What I'm looking to do...

    - Mount 2 TV's in solid brick wall. (Its an old house, and one of the walls is interior so if its not cavity I would say its solid.)

    - Mount a clothes line out the back, again to a solid brick wall

Do I really need a drill with an extra handle for these jobs? (Similar to what I have linked below)

    thanks!

Think of the Aldi as more of a screwdriver then a drill..

You definitely need a hammer-action drill for the things listed above; the 12V Aldi won't be up to it. Both Aldi and Lidl do 18V drills from time to time which should be fine.

The 12V is fine for screw driving, nice and compact. One annoyance - the supplied case won't take the drill when the battery is fitted, so you have to remove the battery each time you put it away; poor design imho.

I have an 18v Aldi and it's the best thing I have ever bought in there.
Does everything I've thrown at it without fuss and charge is really good on it.

I've the ALDI corded drill and it's after doing a good few jobs around the house. Most of the time I've used 5.5mm masonry or 9mm tile bit. I think I paid 30euro. Never had any trouble. I'd buy the same again.

IMO - you are better off having 2 x drills

    - a corded hammer action drill (for heavy jobs)
    - a cordless drill, preferable 18v (but 14 or 12v will also suffice for smaller jobs and screw-driving)

If your not using on a regular basis, its a certainty, that when you need it the battery will be dead.

See (to give you an idea of price levels) https://www.ie.screwfix.com/tools/power-tools/drills?dir=asc&order=price

If your on a budget, just get the best corded drill available in your price range and get the 18v drill/driver the next time you see a bargain or have the funds.

Anyone has experience with these drills, there are two in aldi currently on sale
https://www.aldi.ie/workzone-18v-li-ion-combi-drill/p/082854214104700 for 69 and https://www.aldi.ie/workzone-cordless-drill-and-battery/p/086017227536500 for 50. Not a major difference is specs. My 18v bosch Psb 1800 Li-2 green drill just died shy of 3 yrs. How would it compare to the aldi ones. Any help will be much appreciated.

Go for it. The 3 year warranty is great to have and they've honoured any issues I've had with products with replacements.

Far better of the two, nice drill.

    Better Torque.

Thanks, I had a look at aldi uk, they have the brushless which is around 58 euros. Unfortunately no hammer function in it.
