A TV series based on the movie franchise The Purge is coming on September 4th.
Based on the hit movie franchise from Blumhouse Productions, The Purge revolves around a 12-hour period when all crime, including murder, is legal. Set in an altered America ruled by a totalitarian political party, the series follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city. As the clock winds down, each character is forced to reckon with their past as they discover how far they will go to survive the night.

The Purge is written and executive produced by the film franchise creator James DeMonaco and led by Jason Blum. Additionally, the entire team behind the blockbuster franchise ‎are on board to executive produce: Michael Bay with Brad Fuller and Andrew Form under the Platinum Dunes banner and Sebastien K. Lemercier. Thomas Kelly serves as executive producer/showrunner of the series. Emmy and Golden Globe® award-winner Anthony Hemingway will direct and executive produce the premiere episode.

Really wringing everything they can from this franchise with "The First Purge" out soon too.

Thought the concept was interesting, but I've only seen the first (the original, I should say) and wasn't blown away by it. All the others have looked similar (worth checking out?) and I don't know if a series will differ too much. Might be worth throwing on, but not too much in that trailer to make me sit up and take notice / make it stand out from the others.

    🤪

Same here. Only saw the original and I liked the concept. The plot of the second seems more like what I want. Something like Judgement Night. I will watch the rest sometime and then check out the series.
Wonder if The First Purge will tie directly into the series

How many Purge movies have there been?

I only saw the one with Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey.

Second one is actually better, third one's alright as well....though both are much higher budget and wider in scope than the original which is more a home invasion thriller.

I think it's purely down to Frank Grillo that I like the two sequels so much, but looking forward to watching the new movie and the upcoming show.

That actually looks good. The concept of the purge can work quite well as a tv show. Judging by the emphasis on 10 episode event I imagine this is an once off series and not a regular thing.

This has started. I like it. Good production values and is a similar style to the movies. I think as a series, we will get more invested in the characters.... It might be a better binge-watch than week-to-week though.

I'm waiting until it's finished and will binge over a long weekend, or maybe Christmas, on it.

Anything link it to the movies, apart from the basic premise of course. Just with the First Purge coming out so close to the series.
I've only seen the first movie so want to watch the other 3 before I start the series.

I don't think any direct character links to the purge films.
I have watched the first 2 episodes it's not bad at all, though I do really like the films. I think creator said it is set in the middle of the films timeline wise.
I could do without the night vision bits.

Watched the other 3 movies at the weekend and am up to date now on the series. I guess it helps seeing The First Purge (the last movie) since it shows the Staten Island experiment mentioned in this series.
I agree about the night vision. I'd see through it if he was driving low key with headlights off but they seemed to make things worse.
So they're following 5 stories. Comments on each. Will spoiler tag for episode 3.
Miguel - Our way of seeing what's happening around the city though sometimes seems very over the top like surviving that gauntlet. He makes me wonder what the NFFA are like the rest of the year that he would join the marines to defend the country led by them.
Penelope - Seems to lose faith for a second before going back to being brainwashed.
Poor girl who went before her. Lucky for Miguel that they kept Penelope alive unlike the others
Jane - Not sure if will succeed or even if David is at the house he claims to be. Not my favourite story.
So if Alison doesn't get the job, can she claim discrimination for exercising her right?
Rick and Jenna - Not a big fan of this story so far. Thought they were brought there to be purged, but doesn't seem that way.
Armoured guy - No idea about this story.

Nice wee easter egg with Rick and Jenna's security provided by Ethan Hawke's company.

Would like if they maybe followed a purger who wasn't out helping people. Maybe someone who goes against Miguel later

Last episode next week and it's actually turned into a good watch. Nice twist at the end of episode 8.
Acting not all that but I've enjoyed the more detailed look at this night.

Think Penelope and Miguel's story has been the better of the stories.
Miguel's story felt very Escape From New York.

I watched the first episode , its not bad and intriguing enough to keep going with it, its better than the last 3 movies

    Renewed for a 2nd season.

Didn't think there was another season in it just thought it was there to compliment the movies.

I'm assuming it will be an anthology like the films with maybe 1 or 2 characters crossing over

Haven't watched the movies - though I know the concept.
    Is the show worth watching?
How're the production values in the show?

A very enjoyable season of TV.

    I'll happy watch season 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,421 ✭✭✭✭rob316

Really enjoyed that. The movies are fast and in your face but it was nice to see characters developed and what motivates people to purge. Joe was a brilliant character throughout,
I loved the way the alarm goes and he just says its over see ya next year.

It very light viewing, there's nothing particularly confusing about the purge concept so the whole experience doesn't require much thought like some TV shows.

I'm a fan of the movies and concept but have to say enjoyed this more.

That was a lot better than I thought it would be. Probably a better show to binge than watch weekly.

2nd half of the season was better than the first

Felt a bit like 24 with the entire season contained over a 12 hour period

i liked the hostelesque element. the characters were super annoying though, apart from the marine guy the rest could have been purged for all i cared. is there a shortage of good writers these days

Good opening to season two but no idea where they will go with it now after the ending.

    As it looks like the
season will be set outside of the Purge. Unless they time jump a year to the next Purge.

Fantastic finale setting up what could be a great season 3. (Purge Civil War?)

Max Martini the man with the coolest name in Hollywood is great as always in the action role.

Paola Nunez is a stunning looking woman.

Also really cool cameo from the first film at the start.

Shame - the second season was a big improvement on the first and showed some real promise. I figured the long gap hearing nothing about it had sealed its fate.
