Rats

My cat killed a rat and left him in the garden for me. There was a cover on the shore down the side of the conservatory that must have been opened by father in law and forgot to put it back or maybe the dogs move it who knows. Anyway does everybody have rats along the sewers in their back garden or are they trying to come live in my house.

Wouldn't know about that but you're never too far away from the nearest rat.

    Nasty feckers

That's more or less the sound they make when you hit them with a shovel ;)

Had a similar issue two years ago, where I noticed two holes at the front and back of an old wooden shed down at the end of the garden, then I spotted a rat coming out of one of the holes. I got two bait boxes in my nearest co-op and placed them at front and back of the shed. I used storm bait in them and it got rid of them. I leave the bait boxes out all year round now and change the bait once a week. Haven’t seen any new holes appearing.

I only ever killed one with a shovel and felt really bad about it :(
Even though at an intellectual level I know it was probably better off than the ones I've poisoned. Nothing against them really as long as they stay away, don't want them near my kids, animals, cars () or electrical wiring.

I don't mind the non disease carrying, non destructive domesticated variety nearly as much, they're kinda cute from what I understand and make good pets.

I was just teasing, not about the pet rats though. I’ve images of people running about with shovels killing rats...

Not sure my mums recipe is any better though, she fill shallow bowls with Pepsi, apparently they don’t like coke, anyway they love it cause it’s sugary but the rats cant digest it so their stomachs explode. She has a love hate relationship with rats as where she lives I think they also have water rats.

We have a rat terrier who will tell us if we have them but then does feck all to help us get rid of the vile creatures.

    Folks,
It is against the charter of this forum to discuss vermin control.
OP, please feel free to raise your enquiry in the DIY forum, or Farming and Forestry.
    All the best,
