Hi all, I am just wondering if anyone can give any insight on the minimum floor area needed to be considered a bedroom as opposed to a study. The apartment I'm looking at was built in the early 80s. One of the bedrooms is approx 10 feet x 7 feet however it has a sloping roof to one side, sloping from approx 8 feet down to possibly 4. Itried to finding building regs applicable to the time period but couldn find anything and just want to have my figures in order before I go back to measure it.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

See diagram 3 on page 11 here

The heights for a habitable room, as per the regs is just suggested.

How many floors in the house?

Its a duplex apartment with the upper floor being below the roof hence the slope in the ceiling. I was looking at the technical guidance documents earlier alright. On page 7 it gives a floor area for a habitable room of 6.5 sq m though. Is the 1.5m figure attached to the diagram a nominal figure i.e. is it the area of the room that is full height over the area of the room which is not full height? finally these regs were put in place in 2009, surely a 1980s build could not be expected to conform , in which case how does one discern between a bedroom and a study? thanks for your help
