But I think they might be gone this time their site says phone is down for any help go to the new forum for support but this forum seems to be a ghost forum! as theres no chat etc its brutal.

Anyone any ideas? Its legal what they do I dont know how but it is..

These operators can shut up shop anytime leaving customers high and dry.

The content they are providing is illegal therefore you have no protection.

It's not, I've heard that down the pub too but it's most definitely not.

I've heard the same ****e about streaming, "oh well the law says you have to be in possession of it and I'm not in possession of it if it gets deleted as I watch it" You were at some point at least for the duration of each frame was on the screen in possession of it. Getting evidence to convict someone would be very difficult, and I'm not saying that I don't do it too, but it's not legal.

And if you forget the copyright end of things a conviction of theft would probably stick in court if enough effort was put into it but the political will isn't there so it's not going to happen at the moment.

It's exactly as legal as having a bag of drugs on you earlier in the day. Somewhat easy to detect but impossible to prove.

There was a conviction in the UK for selling them, possibly in Ireland too but I'm not sure.

Correct me if I’m wrong, dreamboxes aren’t illegal as they do not contain any software that allows you to watch paid tv for free. You have to install that yourself right? That’s the case with VU boxes anyway I believe

The dreambox being referred to here is an Android box that came fully loaded. You are right though the original dreambox which is still available is a satellite box

In that case they wouldn't be illegal when sold but they would become illegal to possess once the software is installed.

I know in a recent ruling someone was done for selling them along with giving instructions on how to install the software.

If the company was raided by the Gardai howcome it wasnt on the news?

Just goes to show that these rogue operators are only in it for a quick buck.

From what I saw from the Facebook comments, people actually let the company in question deduct money from the customers bank account(direct debit). And the service was pretty expensive for a rogue operation compared to others.

Bit of a pain but I had mine for two years mostly trouble free so I think I did alright. Tbh the only thing I'll miss is the ondemand / plex server. That was worth the cost alone.

Your subscription was illegal and now they got caught out for selling these subs. You won't be hearing back from them.

If you're talking the original Dreambox for sat then my understanding is it's dead as it was successfully counteracted on a technical level about a year ago. But I haven't stayed with it after so maybe there are new developments but I doubt it. I thought everyone had moved on anyway.
