foil / sun visor over petrol tank

Passed a bike parked up on the pavement this morning on the way to work.

It had one of those foil sun visors on the tank, looks like it was trying to protect the tank from heat...

Surely this isn't a thing, is it?

Nothing to worry about. The only thing I found was parking up in the sun immediately after filling up, there would be a slight venting or a tiny overflow from expansion of the sub-ground temp petrol warming up. I soon learned to not overfill it if I wasn't immediately off somewhere.
