The number of people interviewed for County Council position

    Hi there.

I've just got called for an interview with one of the county councils and upon receiving a letter saying I was invited for interview it was stated that I was number 25.

Does this mean that there at least 25 people being interviewed? If so this seems extraordinary and somewhat disheartening. The position was only advertised for one position so don't think they are hiring more than one person.

Depending on the position applied for it is quite possible you are number 25. I've seen interviews take place over 2 days in our place for some roles.

    Thanks for your reply.

It's quite a well paid position so I thought that HR would have whittled down the numbers substantially for it but that doesn't seem like the case. I know in the organisation that I work for at the moment that at most 7 people would be interviewed for a role.

Seeing that you work for a CoCo Fann Linn would you have any helpful tips for the interview?

I did shortlisting recently for a Coco.
It was over 4 days with 4 panels per day. Roughly 10 people see per panel!

At a recent aptitude test for 'Library Assistant', there were about 90 people.

This was one date out of three sittings.

Extrapolating that number, approximately 200-250 people applied to be a Library Assistant. Possibly half a dozen roles available!

    Council roles seem very popular.

I take it that you know your role inside out/ upside down, following on from that look at Corporate Dev plans.
Make up of county and electoral/ engineering and municipal districts.
Number of elected officials and caoithairleach etc.
Any advantageous/economic/idustrial benefits in the county.
Main disadvantages/ impediments in the county.

The interviews generally have a number of questions such as: 'Illustrate as team leader in your previous role how you succeeded.'

Other hypothetical questions such as" A deadline was missed how would you deal with same'

There will normally be three persons on the panel and depending on roles/grades you may be interviewed by Senior exec enginneers/ Grade 6 senior staff officers and normally one person who is doing or overseeing a comparable role to your application in a neighbouring council.

    Good luck.
