    This is what I have to work with...^
    I bought a Thunderbolt 3 to VGA cable thinking it would plugNplay. :rolleyes:

    Any ideas where to go from here. I don't want to buy the docking station that goes with my laptop as its reviews are poor.

    Are you using this with other monitors or just 1 this vga one?
    This laptop has hdmi out so you should be able to get hdmi to vga adapter which will work for you.
    If you are already using other screens then it may be an issue connecting one more. Try disconnecting one and try the vga then some graphic cards share the display ports like in some you can only use the display port or hdmi but not both also vga and display port could be the same only one can be used.

    Currently I am connecting the monitor using a vga cable to the VGA port. My only other option with this monitor is DVI.

    I am thinking of buying a second monitor (and using two monitors simultaneously) and I'm exploring all my options. I bought a USBC to VGA cable to see if I can make use of the Thunderbolt ports. Then I would know that I could buy another VGA monitor and it would work.
