Has anyone noticed the quality of the RTE player App is quite bad vs the web browser version.

On the web browser version you get a option to Change quality up to 2048k and when i select this the picture is perfect.

However on the app it just seems to stream in 256/512k not sure which one but either way the quality is very poor.

Utter garbage the RTE player. Poor picture even at 2000k and then it keeps dropping connection frequently, resets the stream to start again with ads. What a joke.

I assume that because its only half way through 2018,
RTE have yet to release their new RTE Player app that was due the end of 2017

    http://www.digitaltvnews.net/?p=29079
RTÉ today announced its plans to develop the next generation RTÉ Player, Ireland’s number one broadcaster video-on-demand service. It is expected that the new service will be launched before the end of the year(2017).

Very annoying given that Virgin Media are turning off their analogue service in 2 weeks!

Right now, RTE have no proper app for
    1) Roku box, while bbc, itv and channel 4 do (along with NOWtv) so can't watch RTE on this device
    2) Ferguson Arriva 4K Android Combi DVB box nor the Mecool kiii Pro though I can pick up RTE via dvt-t2 on these just no catch-up tv
    3) The Xiaomi Mi Box nor the Nvidia Shield so neither watch RTE live or catch up
    4) Chromecast or Android nexus player so neither watch RTE live or catch up

Don't think you can even chromecast the app. It's a pretty poor standard.

tried to use the player on the tv browser, it refuses to play on the browser and makes you use the android app. So i figured out how to activate and use the scrool bars. put the mouse pointer where the scrool bar should be and click pg up and down . still ballix , usualy the up, down , right and left arrow keys shoudl work (like they do for other apps). the playback quality is crap

On iOS you can. For some reason RTÉ think Android users wouldn't want Chromecast compatibility.

Tried watching the Champions league game last night with the RTE Player app on the Android box.

The picture was absolutely terrible quality, pure shixx.

    Switched it off.
