Running down a dream ...........

When struggling through a solo hot 10 miler yesterday morning, I decided that I should get back on this again so as to try to get some motivation and maybe even find a few people to share the pain!

Hard to believe that it is been over 3 1/2 years since I posted anything; in that time I have seen my fitness level drop to a 10 year low; so going from running 1000mls in 1 month in Dec '11 to becoming National 1500m V45 champ in July '12, regularly running in the mid 17's for 5k, my aim now is to try to break 20mins for the 5k this summer.

I started off doing the park run in Kilkenny in Feb in 23:58 but am now down to 21:59, and have also ran 21.10 for a 5k on the road. Am up to 35mls a week for the past few weeks, and did my first track session in 2 years last Thursday; 5 x 1k off 90secs aver 4:03.

One of the reasons that I got so unfit is that my family and I moved down to Kilkenny last year for work and I still have been unable to find any people to run with. I contacted KCH and they said they have sessions on Thursday evenings but I went over there one evening and there were only kids there.

So for now, I'll keep ploughing away, but if anyone has any links or ideas to meet up with runners of similar ability, would appreciate a shout.

Cheers for now.... and let’s say cool out there

Didn't get out as much as i would have liked too, between the heat and work.

On Tuesday I just did an easy 5.2mls around the grounds of Kilkenny Castle, although in this heat and running by oneself, I use the word 'easy' very loosely

On Saturday I decided to do the local Park Run, more of a workout really and the chance to run with a few people. Only ran 22:47, almost a minute slower than my best parkrun time this year, but considering the heat, I am not too pushed.

On Sunday morning at 8.30am I did 10mls; I thought getting out early I might be able to beat the heat. but with yesterday's effort still in my legs I ended up having to walk for a min or so after 5mls, 7mls and 9mls. Still, at least I did it :)

Hello Speedy, well done on the park run its certainly a tough course in the Castle Park, nearly worth a minute faster on the roads. You could also get in touch with Gowran A.C who train on the track each Wednesday at 7pm, it just might be another option for you.

Cheers LightningBeard, might just give that a go; anything to get the motivation going in this heat

Only managed to get out twice last week. Have the usual excuses of work (icluding 2 days in Dublin) and this damn (I mean lovely  ) heat.

Will put it behind me and look ahead and continue to be positive :D
