Hi. I have a golden Labrador who seems to be having trouble standing up. His back right leg seems to be the problem.
We have him 9 years, we found him tied up with a sign around his neck saying please look after me and took him in. So dont know his exact age.
Any ideas why he might be struggling?
He is quite a lazy dog, bit overweight

    Check out Labrador Hip Dysplasia...

You need to have him seen by a vet.
It could be hip dysplasia although you would have seen some signs before now .. bunny hopping on his hind legs , sitting frogged legged etc

He may have arthritis etc please see a vet and get a proper diagnosis

If he struggles to get up he’s in pain

If he’s over weight that’s an issue for all sorts of reasons .. and can have a big impact on a dog with arthritis/ hip dysplasia

Btw when he is seen by the vet he will need X-rays on his hind legs etc not just a general over view

It could be something or it could be nothing..ie don’t freak out and take him to the vets to be examined. Rest until then ie short walks on lead only. In my (vast! at this stage) experience they’ll give you some pain relief and have you rest the dog and if no improvement then they might decide he needs X-rays. Your dog is in pain so use the pain releif given and take it from there.
I’d also ignore anyone who for some reason thinks it’s helpful to suggest your dog automatically must have hip dysplacia being a Lab(!) and not get freaked out by it unless they’re a Vet of course - I get that a lot too and there’s nothing wrong with either of my guy’s hips. Dogs can pull muscles and hurt themselves like we can.
