I went from contractor to permanent at work from the 23 of April this year so I get my first monthly payslip on the 28th may . I want to understand how was the USC calculated and also what does 'Tax' they charged me means and also how it was calculated.

So my payslips read as follow:
    Period :5
    Tax code: N
    PRSI code: A1
    INS WK : 6
    Tax credit this pd: 412.50
Tax cut off this pd : 3629.17
    Payments
    salary €2016.67
    Salary backpay : €576.19
    Total payment ( Excl Notional) : €2592.86
    Deductions
    USC : €39.16
    PRSI: €103.71
    Tax: €102.16
    Total deductions: €245.03
    Cumulatives
    Gross to date : € 2592.00
    Taxable pay to date : €. 10823.29
    Tax to date : € 102.16
    EES PRSI to date : € 385.04
Notional Pay to date: € 0.00
    Tax Credits to date. : € 2062.50
    Cut off to date : € 18145.85
    EEs pension to date : € 0.00
    AVs to date : € 0.00
ERs pension this period: € 0.00
    ERs pension to date : € 0.00

    Net pay : €2347.83

    Thanks in advance

tax paid is correct based on your married tax credit of 4950e yearly like this :
20% of your gross monthly pay is 518.58 less your monthly tax credit 412.50 = tax payable 106.08e

. USC is deducted on the basis that you have a medical card, otherwise you would have paid 64e USC.

If you don't have a medical card , then it looks like you did not pay USC on the backpay of 576e
