Looking to replace my current phone (Moto G4) and not sure if should go for the older S7 edge or the new Moto G6?

    Any thoughts?

I've had that thought myself recently!

The S7 edge has fallen in price considerably on Amazon.de
S7 edge is probably a superior phone with superior amoled screen and camera especially in low light. That could be a major plus if you value the camera aspect.
However the S7 probably won't be getting any further Android updates past Oreo.
The Moto G6 should get Android P, but possibly nothing else past that going by my G5 Plus.
S7 will have more options (some say bloat) on it from Samsung. But that might be more interesting having more options.
On the other hand he Moto more like stock Android which some prefer.
You can get S6 with dual SIM but S7 will be single SIM.

I've had zero issues with my Moto G5 Plus by the way. Very reliable phone.

    Any further thoughts yourself?

You have pretty much summed my thoughts on it - the camera and screen really impressed me on S7 so that's really pushing me in that direction.

Another smaller thing is NFC - which the S7 has but not sure if the moto does.

The European Moto G6 should have NFC.
Well the one sold by Amazon.de does as has been confirmed by buyers in the Q&A.

You might also want to consider the forthcoming Nokia X6, looks impressive imho.
Unless you dislike having a notch.
    Due in July afaik.
Will get plenty of Android updates as it's expected to belong to the Android One program.
Some reviews of the X6 Chinese version available on YouTube.

    Actually just thinking about G6 v S7.
I'd deffo go for the S7.
My Moto is reliable, but it's boring.
It'll only ever get 1 major Android update, and 1 year later we're still waiting for Oreo. It'll get it soon, but the phone has got quite stale.
Very few additional options to be playing around with (may be preferable to some).
No nifty side notifications with themes to change the lighting effects like the S7. Multitudes of other options to be using on the S7.

Now if it was between a Nokia Android One (any model) or the S7 then I'd be hard pushed to choose. The prospect of regular Android updates with new stock features is not to be sniffed at.

But that S7 super amoled screen!

I did have a look at that originally but preferred to stick with a 5.5 screen rather than go 6.0.

If you can get these two at the same price I'd definitely go for the Samsung. It might be 2½ years old but it was built with high end components through and through. You'll also get access to a bit more peripherals and stuff, like the Gear VR, its controller and the Oculus store.
I still have an S7 and it's still performing extremely well (overheating on VR these days though :( )
One thing that could hint the S7 might get the 9.0 update is that the phone got the S8 skin/user interface with the 8.0 update. It seems like Samsung is streamlining the software a bit more to make maintenance across devices easier. That said, the way Android updates works today is so outdated it really has to change. Not knowing if or when a phone costing 800-1000 euros at launch is updated isn't acceptable. Imagine Microsoft and PC manufacturers did the same with computers in that price range... :p
