Has anyone had any difficulty taking a vacuum cleaner home. We have a 1 year old Dyson and are not sure about customs checking going into Ireland.

I would be less worried about customs and way more worried about voltage compatibility.

Is it 50 or 60Hz. Things with motors will not work well if power frequency is mis matched. (Ireland is 50).
