License Question

Many years ago I purchased Windows 7, as there was no upgrade path from Vista to Windows 7. When Windows 8 was launched I purchased the upgrade to Windows 8 pro, and then upgraded to Windows 10 Pro.

I am thinking of upgrading my PC, new motherboard, processor and ram. Would I need a new license , or could I keep my existing license.

Microsoft licensing can be a nightmare.

    But usuall

If the original Windows 7 had a transferrable licence then yes probably.

If you bought an OEM copy of windows 7 then no.
OEM locks upgrade licences to the original hardware

If's a second hand corporate licence then it depends

Eventually I upgraded, and had to get a new license. The free upgrade to Windows 10 does not transfer to a new motherboard
