Cheers OP, see how this compares to Google Maps / Waze.

Ireland map downloading for me. :)

It's downloading, just VERY slowly. Been "downloading" now about three minutes and still only at 8.8MB of 147.1!

For IOS - "NavMii" is free and quite good - has world wide maps and it all works offline.
So I was able to use it in the States with no data plan ok.

    “Roll it back”

HERE WeGO is great for driving & urban public transport.

Used it offline on the subway in NYC & it's suggestions on which trains to take & where to connect were invaluable. Unlike Google maps, it's walking directions are terrific too.

A couple of years ago I had to take my son to a government building in a large Spanish city and I had no mobile internet at the time.

Prior to the trip Google maps was unable to find the address.

I then installed here we go maps and that found it. Downloaded the map for offline and next day it took me to the exact location. Was a godsend for me that occasion :)

Just back from uk here maps is better than Google when driving as you get current speed limit and speed alert warnings.

I use Waze when I have a solid (cheap) data connection (live traffic info and other updates e.g. moveable speed checks really useful).

Here Maps is great when you don't have data, roaming etc though
