    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any contacts for reputable breeders / advice for anyone looking for Havanese dogs in Ireland?

We're in the process of moving house and I'd be very interested in getting a Havanese in Spring 2019 (once we're properly settled into the new house).

    Any advice / information welcome!

    Thanks

From what I know, Havanese are quite rare in Ireland. I think your best bet would be to contact the Kennel Club and see if they have a contact for the Havanese Club, or Society, of Ireland. Also, go prepared with knowledge of all their genetic diseases and the relevant health tests the breeders should be getting done.

Oh there was a litter of them in the Vets last month. They all fit in a small fabric crate which I thought was gas :D. Definitely contact the breed club. A healthy pup with support from a reputable breeder is worth the wait.

Thanks to you both, I’m definitely happy to wait for the right breeder and the right pup!

Good luck with your search! If travel is not a problem, consider looking at breeders in the UK too?

There is much more choice if you can extend your search to the UK. Just bear in mind that the pup will need to get a rabies vac if coming from the UK, so you need to be extra confident that the breeder will be continuing to socialise the pup and letting it have lots of new experiences before you can collect it.

i.e. pup must be 12 weeks old for rabies vac and can't travel til 3 weeks after that, bringing it to 15 weeks.

I've also seen breeders that wont let their pups go to other countries as they then might not be able to take them back if something goes wrong. I imagine that's very much dependent on the individual breeder though.

*I spend far too much time researching getting an imaginary puppy that I most certainly don't have time for right now.

We previously had a Havanese, and my goodness, she is the most missed dog that we’ve had (She emigrated with us when we came home).

ASKAIK, there is one IKC breeder but you would need to phone the IKC to get their name as I don’t remember.

If your looking in the UK, check to see if the breeder also has a council breeding license, if so please do not buy a pup from them.

While the Havanese is a recognised breed, anything mixed with it is not and I have come across a lot of designer breeds charging > €1000 per pup claiming that they are Havanese.
