Career break, split year tax relief

I have taken a career break from the HSE which started in the last week of May. I have left the country amd will not be back in Ireland for 18mths.

I want to apply for split year tax relief. The HSE says they can not issue a P45 because i am still employed by them. The revenue website says that a P45 is issued when you take a career break...https://www.revenue.ie/en/employing-people/when-an-employment-ends/when-to-complete-form-p45.aspx

I have spoken to revenue today amd they have said that i can’t get issued a P45 as i am still employed. I asked why it says on their website that it must be issued and he said it must be wrong and they’ll have to change it.

When i asked how do i apply for split year tax relief he said i will need to wait for my P60 which won’t be issued until Feb next year.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation, or know how i can apply for the split year tax relief?

You appear to be correct as both the website and Revenues own guide to PAYE for employers state the same thing. Request confirmation in writing from Revenue via myenquiries as to why they appear to be contradicting their own rules. If it's an error then the website and guide will have to be updated and you'll have to wait until the end of the tax year to sort out any refund due.

If it's not an error then get confirmation from Revenue that your payroll be informed of the correct procedure as there will be hundreds of HSE staff on career beaks I'd imagine.

Thanks, i’ll do that now. Do you have a link to the revenue guide to PAYE employers?

It's on the same page you linked at the bottom in further guidance.

Just following this up, I haven't heard back yet from my inquiry directly to revenue, however the payroll dept in the HSE contacted me yesterday to advise that my P45 has been issued.
