Hey Gang, not the most technically minded,

Have had Fttc for a good few years now (Vodafone) sync was consistant at

22/23mb down 5/6up (also a member of SamKnows so have all my records)

Had an outage recently and got usual blurb modem problem etc. they reduced speed down to 3mb or so to get a sync said it was modem, sending out new 659 modem etc etc. 4/5 days later no sign of modem and call again.
Ohh its been rectified no need for new modem we'll up the profile again.

Only thing it its down now to 15/16mb. Funny thing is while on Airwire availability check this morning I notice the max speed profile listed for my address is now 18d/5u while previously it was listed as 25d/7u

Any idea what resulted in the slower speeds ?

A fault somewhere in the network that’ll be fixed in a year if you’re lucky.

I’m on ADSL1 3mb sync between 2.5-7 but in 2016 this was more than halved due to a fault they claimed didn’t exist. Only in mid 2017 this was fixed.

Happened again recently after an outage. Took 3 weeks to fix. 3 Eir technicians came out that day together and just dug their heels and had no idea how to restore the speed

Fault followed by a renewal of the line rating.

Post your line stats from the 659:
If the sync is 18Mb and a high SNR (14+db say) then you just need a rerating of the line
If the sync is 15Mb and minimal SNR (6dB) then the fault was only partially repaired.

Exactly the same thing happened to me in the exact same order, also with Vodafone.

Upgraded to FTTC from dsl. Was getting 22mb with no dropouts or issues for about 6 months. Then there was an outage, it came back and speed was down to 15mb.

Vodafone claimed that for no apparent reason the line was no longer able to take the higher speed and there was nothing they could do about it.

Virgin put in their cables along our road a year later and ordered it the week it went live.

The "funny" thing is that I know a guy locally that does a lot of comms work for local businesses (phones, networks, broadband etc.) and was talking to him about it and he said that he'd seen the same thing on multiple sites that he visited, again all with Vodafone as their provider.

Yep, that should do better once the prequalification is run again. If you want you can ask them to request one or you can just wait for the monthly one to run. Then call and ask for the next profile up.
