Any advice on what type/breed of either of these to go for

Putting it in as a forage crop for next Dec/Jan/Feb/bit of March

Could still go for the Kale as field will be ready next week but thinking about holding off for a week or two and putting in Redstart as yield will be down as I haven't got the Kale in during early June.

Just wondering in yere opinion is all Kale and all hybrid Rape/Kale created equal or are some companies breeds a bit better...yield/germination/winter hardiness/dry matter - palatability etc

Found rape/hinted is slow to get going earlier sown the better the yield. Mostly winter hardy the snow in March did kill it last year though. Without rain will be difficult to germinate one passed it in last year for sheep(actually 2 passes now that I think of it sowed 4 kg acre broadcast interval variety

I think you're still ok for kale, pinford(?) I think is a good variety, have a look on cotswoldseeds website.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Ya, I asked Cotswolds seeds for a forage turnip and redstart mix early last August

Forage turnip came up great but there wasn't much redstart in the mix so I was disappointed in that, I think because it wasn't an off the shelf product they may not have gotten the mix right...all other conditions were good.

But you think the kale might still be ok if I got it in late next week or early the week after?

Ya, but dry weather might be a problem affecting germination, what way do you sow it?

Broadcast with electronic spinner...go with 30/40 per cent extra seed
