Would like to maintain some level of fitness throughout my pregnancy. Was thinking of getting a personal trainer but given the cost I thought I’d ask about any YouTube videos or apps that you might use to do a home workout. Any recommendations?

How do you currently maintain your fitness?

I would be wary myself of using youtube videos etc without some guidance from a trainer. I have continued to train during my pregnancy but the instructor in my gym has been a wealth of knowledge about dos and donts

My wife has kept up yoga and spinning but was advised not to go running.

I used to go to the gym and do some weights. But right now I’m just walking a bit extra. Are there any recommended apps perhaps?

I'm still swimming. Its a great overall workout but low impact. Plus so refreshing especially as you get bigger.

I used to go running few days and do HIIT classes 3 times a week before I got pregnant but I eased off in 1st trimester especially as I had sickness. I kept up running until 7 months when I started to find it too much so I stopped and started going for walks more. I started ante natal pilates last Monday and I really enjoyed it although I woke up with stiff legs this morning! :P

If keep up the walking as much as you can, it’ll stand to you in labour. I wouldn’t necessarily take up something like running if it’s not something you would usually do outside pregnancy.

I walk loads, my last two pregnancies didn’t allow much due to SPD but I’m going good this time. I did classes called the bump room on my last pregnancy which were great. They’re run by physiotherapists and are a bit of an aerobic workout along with a lot of work on your pelvic floor. I’m doing pregnancy yoga this time round, to keep my body stretched etc but if nothing else for an hours break to myself!

I ran until 25 weeks with #1 and 34 weeks with #2. Swam a good bit in both pregnancies and did a bit of gym work too. With #2 I was pushing my first son in the running buggy for Parkrun most weeks and when the bump got big the buggy acted as a mobility aid for balance.

I've recovered quickly physically both times, back running 5-6 weeks after each birth. Found the recovery after #2 easier as I was only 10 weeks in total off the road.

    Hi there.
I am 28 weeks and I find swimming great. I am pretty big already (2nd baby, history of large babies!) so walking is a bit tough. I do pregnancy yoga once a week and love it.
I would have done a good bit of crossfit and oly lifting for just over a year prior to pregnancy – I don’t do this now as it does not feel comfortable and balance is an issue with large bump.
I would investigate classes near you that specialise in pregnancy- I’d be wary of home workouts. You prob know already but it’s very important to be mindful of certain exercises putting you at a higher risk of diastasis recti and
Pelvic floor issues post-partum. So do as much research as you can and try to find a reputable trainer who actually specialises in pregnancy.
I would look up Brianna battles online – found her to be a great resource of info for training while pregnant.

are there any pregnancy fitness classes near you? I went to baby body fit in Galway during my pregnancy once I didn't feel comfortable going to the gym classes anymore. I kept up spinning until I got wobbly on the bike, and I kept up the weights for most of the pregnancy too. The main thing is not to take up a new fitness regime during pregnancy, but otherwise, clear things with your GP and you should be able to keep up a lot of what you were doing before you got pregnant with modifications as your belly grows.
