Got a camelcamel email overnite about a price drop on this:

YI Mirror Dash Cam 1080P Dual-Recording and Wi-Fi In Car Camera 4.3” Wide Touchscreen 138° Angle 4G All-Glass Lens Dashboard Camera with Night Vision, Emergency Recording, , Front Rear View HD Camera, Reverse Monitor https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0792Z4M4Z/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_hGjkBbAPHVHCM

Always looked interesting to me as it goes over your current rearview mirror and also has a rear/reversing camera.

Might be of use to someone so I thought I'd post.

Thanks OP , out of interest is it most common to power these from USB/Cigarette Lighter? , does it mean it comes with a long thin cable that you need to run under various rubber/plastic back to the power source ? (Probably answering my own question there)
Just want to avoid any unsightly cables or anything that can get snagged or pulled easily.

One of the answers on the amazon page mentions a 6m cable so it should be long enough to hide away properly.

Have dash cam installed and rear camera almost there but need some help. In order for rearview camera to switch on automatically when in reverse a cable needs to be connected to "+ terminal of cars reverse signal lamp". Is that just reversing light? I've a Passat cc if that's any help can't see red cable being long enough to go from back window into boot and out to lights

Yeah, that's it. There won't be a problem adding a bit more to the red cable.

Camera quality is great, not as wide an angle as many others but that's a good thing as it brings the road view in a little closer. Mirror is too wide IMHO. Screen is almost useless in daylight, but looking at it straight on helps a little. I have had problems connecting to it, but that may be because my app still has the old Xiaomi camera linked, I don't know... I haven't connected the reversing camera live view yet, but as the screen is almost useless anyway, I probably won't bother.

    A bargain? Yes.

Easiest thing to do is pop out the light cluster housing and stick it to the reverse bulb!

Depends on your bulb holder. You can wind it around the points if needed. Solder is better however
