Wedding in Portugal summer 2019

    Hi all,

No doubt this has been done to death but I'm looking for any advice, tips or info regarding planning a wedding next August in Portugal (Algarve area). We've already identified the location and will soon be locking in places to stay. It's only a small party, about 20 of us to be precise as we never wanted anything big and/or formal like you'd get at traditional weddings.

We're in the process of throwing down deposits on things so it's starting to get serious, hence why I'm just looking for any advice from people who have either got married in Portugal before or have been to a wedding there.

One concern I had was around the ceremony, we've been told by the wedding planner we're dealing with that we'll be married in a civil ceremony (which we want) but I think I may have read here before this can cause complications about being recognised back in Ireland? Is this true? Think some suggested it's easier to get officially married at home and then go through the motions of "getting married" over there.

Are there any other things to watch out for like this? Ideally also things to keep costs down!

    Many thanks in advance guys.

    KMA
