With the new 2 yr nct rule for classics, can you ask a UK guy selling a car to renew a MOT to post 20rh may even if it is not due?

A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone.

What was the previous nct rule for a 30 year old car. My car passed nct last week, 28 years old. Have owned it 14 years

Previous rules were you got a one-year cert like any 10+ year old car.

Your car should get a two-year cert the first time you pass a test with the car over 30 yrs old. If your car turns 30 on its NCT date - maybe don't get it tested early!
