Abscess on feral cat

I have a semi feral cat in work, and he has what I think is an abscess. I have been trying to trap him for years to neuter him, but it's proved impossible, so I cannot get him to a vets. I have been given antibiotics by a vet, and managed to get 1/2 tablet into him Saturday, but nothing since :(

Possibly TMI - but today it looks like the abscess has burst but the wound looks horrific! He must be in awful pain and feeling very sick. Is it likely he will recover by himself, if he won't take the antibiotics? He's was a very hardy Tom until the last week.

It needs cleaning. Sorry but i had a cat with that problem and yes it is horrific. He needs the antibiotics. Is there anyone there, eg TNR group, etc who could lend you a spring trap? Then get him to the vet? Or if he is indoors any chance of getting a sedative into him?

The abscess is on the side of his face under his ear. Vet said it's classic spot for cats to bite when they are fighting (I took a pic to show vets, my regular vets wouldn't help, thankfully another vets practice was very kind and have given me antiibotics).

I've had 2 local TNR groups who have tried to catch him, and I've tried also with traps over the past 5 years, but he is having none of it. He sees the trap and he heads off over the yard and disappears for the day. I've successfully trapped many feral cats and kittens over the years, but can't get this fella.

I asked vet for sedatives before, but they won't give them to me incase he wanders on to the road and gets knocked down. He is an outside cat.

I have antibiotics, but he only had them Saturday, I called into work yesterday but he wasn't around. This morning, the abscess looks dreadful and he won't eat the pouch food that I have the tablet ground into. I've bought some sardines so they might tempt him.

    Poor fella looks miserable :(

Unfortunately not, he is in work and it's a large open area, I don't know where he sleeps, but he is waiting for me most mornings. Fingers crossed he will get the antibiotics into him.

Is it a tablet you're trying to get into him? I used to break them into small bits and tuck them into butter for one of mine. Or works with any of the most liked treats or chunks of catfood, anything mushy you can squish the piece of tablet into. Then just throw some unlaced stuff out singly and the stuff with tablet bits in between.
My fella had an abscess too, same place below his ear, but i grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and lanced it before it could pop :(

Thanks a mill Lady Haywire - he had a good bit of the antibiotic this morning in his breakfast, it's still very nasty looking, but isn't quite as bad as yesterday, so hopefully he's on the mend.

Good news! Thank you. That he is eating is in itself a good sign. My lad when he had an abcess hid in a drawer. By the time I winkled him out he was fading fast but a vet sorted it out. There was no way he would have touched food
Oddly that abcess was in his armpit.
