Best way to split sat cable, one box rarely used.

    Hi folks,
I want to tidy up cables in house and remove one satellite cable which is currently feeding freesat tuner on tv. I have two other cables feeding sky q. I also have saorview coming down from the attic through old cable which is trunked in wall. I have a satelite feed into attic which is connected to combi box in bedroom. The bedroom tv and main downstairs never used at same time. To be honest don't really need the freesat on the main tv but handy the odd time.

I'd like to split the attic satelite cable so I send one down with the saorview and Sat via a combiner. Split at tv and run to freesat and saorview. I know that will work but can I split the attic sat feed and send one to the bedroom combi box? If both aren't used at the same time will the box in bedroom and freesat in living room work?

    Sorry for lengthy post
    Thanks,
    Mick

Don't know if this will work, but it won't break the bank if it doesn't

Sat cable from dish --> Smart Priority Switch --> 2 output cables to SAT/Terrestrial combiners --> TV point splitters

Receiver where you want priority control to master output, secondary receiver to slave output. There are many points in that setup where there will be a reduction in signal so that it may not work by the time it get to the receivers.

Alternatively, I would recommend a multiswitch in the attic that will combine the sat and terrestrial feeds down a single cable, it will also amplify the signal. The downside side is the unit cost, requires 4 cables from the dish, requires a nearby power socket.

Thanks for the reply. The most straightforward might be to remove skirting and hide existing cable behind. Question on sky q hybrid lnb. Are all the feeds same or will only some work with sky q? The others 28.2 sat?

If you have the 6 output hybrid LNB then all outputs will work with any receiver. If you have the standard SkyQ 2 output wideband LNB, this will only work with the SkyQ box.

Thanks it's hybrid lnb for sure. Currently have two cables to freesat and two to sky q

I had a weird feeling that the freesat boxes were connected to a specific connection on the lnb or the sky q.. Basically the cable I want to remove is used by sky q so if I connect the other cable from the freesat box then should still work?

All outputs will work with all receivers, thread here - https://touch.boards.ie/thread/post/107282180

Just to follow up. I removed the extra sat cable and got two splitter combiners.. Split the Sat cable in attic and hooked all up. Everything working fine. The two freesat receivers never used at same time. Happy enough for now. Probably will run extra sat cable into the attic just for completeness at some point.
    Thanks,
    Mick
