Be aware, not all public SCPs are 22kW AC

I thought that all the ecars slow public charge points were 22kW three phase AC with 2 sockets, each giving 11kW if 2 cars were connected.

Not so, it seems. The Dyke Road charger in Galway City is only 7kW single phase. I pulled up, and there was already a Zoe connected, so I plugged into socket 2 and it started charging. I came back to the car about 2.5 hours later, and the Zoe was already gone, so I stopped charging, and then saw that I had only gained 3-4%

So, I thought that maybe the Zoe was taking the majority of the 22kW (that I thought the SCP would have had). But when I checked the ecars map, it does clearly list it as a 7kW single phase charger.

I don't know how it shares the 7kW between the 2 sockets, but I don't think I got 3.5kW since I should have got more than 3% in 2.5 hours.

So, if in Galway, use the chargers in the retail park up the street, that's a 22kW chargepoint, and free to park I think. It was fully occupied when I was there.
It seems the Dyke Road car park requires payment for parking even when charging (according to ecars app).

I don't know how many of these exist, I think they're rare enough based on a random sample in the ecars app, I didn't find any more.

The only two I have come across based on the time to charge in the Zoe were:

    (1) Kilmartin Hill , Wicklow which with no other car connected took 3 hours to charge

    (2) Civic Centre, Gorey which again with no other car there was only delivering 7 kWh

Both are marked on the ecars map as 22 kWh.

There may be others I have not come across

Louisa Bridge train station is also only 7kw. Last time I plugged in there was another Leaf already plugged in and the car (and CP) indicated I was only drawing 16 amps (3.6kw). Ecars maps says it's 22kw.

Haven’t used that many train station chargers but all were 7kw

I used Leixlip Louisa Bridge a few weeks ago (just me, no other car) and it was pulling down 22kW 3 phase according to the car. Hope it hasn’t been downgraded!

Both M3 Parkway and Dunboyne train stations are 7 kW, assuming they are operational. Haven’t been to them in a while. Mullingar station is 22kW so it seems they just randomly decided which were 7 and which were 22. Well probably not randomly but still..

I wonder if some of the 22kW units are wired incorrectly and they have connected the same phase to the single phase L1 pin on both sockets. I'd imagine they should be wired up so that it's a different phase going to the L1 pin on each socket.

So if incoming phases are P1,P2,P3, they should be wired to socket 1 as L1,L2,L3 but to socket 2 as L2,L3,L1. So, then when 2 single phase cars are connected, and they both draw from L1 pin, each would get full 7kW power from a single phase, since the first car is getting P1 while the second one is getting P2.

Of course, it's entirely possible I don't understand how 3 phase electricity works :)

It's possible it has been changed out since I last used it, which was several months ago.

I've seen a few Arklow AC points that are 3 Kw, I emailed ecars and they denied it, basically if it shows 22 kw on the map then I don't know what I'm talking about , there are several of these old skool charge points still around.

I noticed the Blanchardstown Charge AC point was around 7 Kw also because when I connected my 3 phase AC lead to the i3 with 11 Kw charger it gave 'completed by' charge times for 3 kw power, why ? because my 3 phase lead is only 16 amps where I should have got a 32 amp lead but anyway , on a proper 3 phase 22 Kw AC point it gives me the full 11 Kw, which is 16 amps.

There are some 3 kw points around also and I proves this by using leaf spy with my old Leaf with 6.6 Kw AC charger, but try tell this to ecars !

Blanchardstown SC SCP is 22kW, I've charged there in a Zoe ZE40 on test.

There is an issue with one side of the SCP - the one that repeatedly disconnects. That one sometimes gets power limited.

Perhaps the app says that, but there is no parking fee while charging at any location in Galway owned by the City Council, including Dyke Road. I have this in writing from someone in the Council.

Good to know thanks. Same in Offaly, was parking at the charge point in the car park outside Birr castle and the parking warden was there and I asked if I needed to pay for parking and he said that as long as I was charging he wouldn't go near my car.

Was in Thurles yesterday and the only charger there is at the train station. First time there and this is not a 22 kWh charge point.

Zoe was reporting 2.20 hrs to charge from 30%.

It gave up after about 15 mins connected

So definitely do not depend on this one.
