Whole-life costs of a Passivhaus: from 2014

I figure that £300/year of UK gas for a "traditional" (non-passive) 88.5m2 dwelling built to current regs amounts to about 8160kWh, or 92kWh/m2.

In Ireland that would cost about €500.

But we have bigger houses. 120sqm would be €640, 180sqm would be €920, (simply scaling up, but I assume larger buildings are more efficient). All numbers include standing charges.

Are regular new builds hitting those numbers in practice? I've seen some posts on here with new house owners reporting multiples of that.

I'd guess that a Passivhaus is more likely to meet the calculations than a regular new build...?

What is the failure mode for plastic duct work?

Don't know, I was surprised, given the amount of it floating around in the pacific :)

I asked the same question here

It makes no sense to me. We use plastic pipes for waste that don't fail after 10 or 15 years so why should they for ventilation?
