i have found a used Lexus 2015 in UK I am interested in buying
    What does this mean
The garage says it is VAT qualifying for export and want £300 more than price for administration.
Is there any point in this as surely I will have to pay Irish VAT which is higher or will that be on used value of car
    Advice appreciated

I cannot answer your question around VAT qualifying cars but I'd tell them to shove the £300 admin fee up their ass. Some UK dealers seem to be adding these tasty "admin fees" when they hear an Irish buyer is interested in their car. Imo it's just a way of getting more money out of you knowing your already saving money over buying a car at home anyway.

I'd be with Bazz. if they want the sale tell them to choke on their £300 fee. Cheeky sods.

For a 3 year old car “VAT qualifying” just means that it has always been owned by a VAT registered business - the dealership will have fully recovered VAT when it took it into stock (ie they have less net cash invested in the car) and they have to charge full VAT on the sale. This involves no additional work for them and no extra cost - if anything it has saved them cash flow. There’s no real advantage for an overseas EU private buyer in this car - if it was being exported outside the EU, it would be more attractive to a private buyer. Tell them to feck off.
