Ground for lightening protection

    Hi,

I've got a device for our electrician to install. There is an earth on it for lightening protection.

My understanding is that this requires an electrical bond (Electrical Bonding). Is this simply a bonding strap from the connection on the device to a metal object such as a pipe or exposed metal?

What is the difference between this and the normal electrical earth?

Does the earthing strap prevent static shocks?

I know the electrician will know what to do, but I just want to know for my own benefit.

    Thanks.
