This is growing at a local church, and while I haven't positively identified it (Wellingtonia,?) I thought some may be interested to see the arm that has grown out to one side. Trunk is 14 feet in circumference at the height of the arm, and the arm is about 8 feet in circumference . Serious strain where it joins the trunk!…

Church built in 1803, so tree probably younger than that.

It looks like a western red cedar, they can get huge.

I was told the characteristic of a Wellingtonia is that you can punch the trunk without hurting yourself. It's spongy. They're a form of Sequoia.
