Got my results yesterday and was pretty happy (grades are grades, I'm just happy to be finished) but noticed that while I've been awarded a 1.1, my overall is 69% (well 68.7% to be exact).

While naturally I'm fairly happy with the mark, I still don't know if I essentially deserve it tbh and after doing some serious digging in Trinity's exam regulations and conventions for my degree, I found that examiners have some level of subjectivity so long as most of my grades were 1.1s and others weren't ****e.

Is this just a Trinity thing or do most colleges do that? When I stick 1.1 down on the CV but get questioned upon viewing my transcript how I got a first with <70% what am I meant to tell people?

While it's class saying "I got a first", it feels kinda lousy on my classmates if I'm honest.

In the highly competitive and cut throat jobs market we live in I would not be quick to talk down any academic achievement. You got a 1.1 if your degree paper says so. While you may have to show your detailed transcript I would just stick to the good news in your CV and leave it at that.

HR departments will dig up enough negative stuff on you if they can. Preparing and presenting yourself at job interviews is no place for misplaced modesty or unduly strict honesty.

    Congratulations on your 1.1 degree.

Cheers, I was just pretty confused.
