    Hey guys,

We've been living in our house for a few years and the garage and front door finish is starting to peel and look awful.

I know it has to be sanded down but I'm unsure if it needs a manual sanding or if a sander will do.

    Any advice?

The quality of the finish is in direct proportion to the amount of time you invest in sanding in my experience.
I have literally spent 10's of hours sanding my front door and garage doors with various grades of sandpaper.
You can start off with an electric sander if you wish and then finish by hand.
Don't forget to sand lightly between coats.
