If a GP refers you to hospital for an operation as a public patient do you have to pay anything more?
Read up on it but there is contradictory info online.

I was willing to pay a coupla hundred euro for what would/should be a minor operation but the doc says he can't do it and it needs to be done in the hospital and on top of that he has recommended the removal of two moles. The OP is for a lipoma removal and the 2 moles are in the exact same spot.

Can't afford to be hit with a bill going into the thousands...

If you are referred to a public service then it is free bar the the bed charge of €80 per night which is capped at €800 a year. This fee is waived if you are on a medical card however.

Thanks for that, shouldn't need to stay the night

Out patients are usually charged for their ‘bed’ for the day also
