Paramount Network UK channel launching Free-To-Air 4th July!

VIACOM ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF PARAMOUNT NETWORK IN THE UK

I gather that it will probably not appear officially on the SKY Ireland EPG given no reference to Sky Ireland in the press release material. As with other channels in the Channel 5 suite which are absent from the SKY Ireland EPG, I suspect it may be possibly to manually add this channel and store it in the "Other Channels" menu if viewing on a Sky digital satellite receiver and it may also be available via other generic satellite set-top-boxes given it's intended free-to-air status.

"Paramount Network" channel is intended to replace the slot currently occupied by "Together" (The Community Channel) on Sky 159 although; it may not appear on the SKY Ireland EPG when it is due to launch on 4th of July 2018.

Paramount Network will launch in the UK on Freeview (57), Sky (159), BT (57) and TalkTalk (57).

See Press Release confirming programming for the new channel below here:

    Not on Freesat either.

    Not on Freesat either.

This is true according to the launch pre-publicity although; the fact that all of the other tv channels from the Channel 5 family are currently on Freesat in the UK augers well. I would expect that the new Paramount Network channel will probably follow suit in due course. Freesat may not have been in a position to confirm a specific channel number for this channel on their platform at time of press release but Viacom/Channel 5 may still have been anxious to launch on 4th of July probably because it's "Independence Day" in the United States and the schedule is full of American content so it's an ideal from a marketing/advertising sales perspective.

Meanwhile, users of the Freesat service will just have to manually add the channel once it becomes available on 4th of July. This is where one of the Humax DVR/PVR models can come in handy as I believe you can still use the pause/live rewind facilities with those channels that are not automatically included on a platform's electronic programme guides such as: Sky Ireland or the UK Freesat systems in this scenario.

Like most of Viacom’s UK launches since they took over Channel 5, this is being run as a “Channel 5” channel rather than an “MTV Networks” channel, which means we likely won’t be getting it on pay TV platforms in Ireland.

That is a bit ambiguous ..... it is on Sky but is it FTA, FTV or encrypted by Sky for its customers?

Hopefully FTA like their other channels.

It might help drive some customers to FTA in place of subscription TV.

    It follows a similar pattern to other channels launched via the Channel 5 family in the UK. Paramount Network channel will most likely appear in free-to-air (FTA) format as that has been stated in all press releases since the initial press release last Summer although; they obviously wanted a slot on various platforms such as Sky UK etc;

Every time a channel launches free-to-air on digital satellite but not officially launches on the Sky ROI EPG looks bad for Sky Ireland. Channel 5 and it's family of channels probably have no wish to acquire broadcast rights for the Republic of Ireland. This will encourage further take-up of generic free-to-air digital satellite systems as opposed to taking out a Sky subscription contract. There are rumours that Sky Arts channel may be about to be taken Free-To-Air however; this is still currently speculation.

I assume it's just not on the Freesat lineup of channels but will be available for tuning on satellite as a free channel?

    It's encrypted

    It's encrypted

Which is it, then FTA or not - it's saying FTA on other sites

    It is FTA on Freeview.
The situation on Satellite seems to remain unresolved.
Paramount Network will launch on Sky channel 159 and channel 57 on Freeview and platforms that piggyback on the terrestrial service. At the present time, Paramount Network isn't due to launch on Freesat.

It is launching on Freesat, their website has a "Freesat - TBC" note where it lists the channel numbers. It is currently encrypted, as all Channel 5 channels are when testing, before going FTA just before launch.

'To Be Confirmed' (TBC) could well mean it does not appear, so for the present the situation is not resolved ....... whatever is holding up the decision.

Don't see why it won't be FTA on satellite. It's just another outlet for the same shows and movies shown on the already FTA Channel 5 channels.

Maybe they're playing a waiting game to see what happens with the CH4 price war.
