Prep for future domestic charging point

I'm having external insulation fitted and want to keep a future charging point in mind. We're a year or so away from moving to a two car BEV/PHEV setup so its a case of putting things in place if necessary for a future grant-funded charging point.

Is there any issue leaving things as is and then running the cable externally from the soffit over the thinner external insulation render or would it be better to have a cable run now from the consumer unit behind the external insulation to the planned location for the charging point?

It would make more sense to do it now. Cleaner job.
