    Only in very small company I'd imagine. That said if both happy with the nature of the relationship there's nothing wrong with it.

    People often have people like that in work. Be it small or big company.
    More common in smaller companies though I'd say

    I had an apprentice who I kinda felt like he wanted me to adopt him. His dad was never around when he was growing up.
    I didn’t mind him really but I have enough kids at home. Maybe the boss feels like you are the kid she never had or whatever.
    Did you get on with your own mother?
