I've absolutely loved using this but with the two older children finally too big for this (and preferring to use their own bikes) and space at our new house at a premium, I’ve decided to move this on.

If you know your cargo bikes, you’ll have heard of the Xtracycle Free Radical – a kit that transforms any bike into a cut-price cargo bike. It’s basically a frame extension that bolts to the chainstay bridge and rear dropouts. Your rear wheel is relocated to the frame extension with a longer chain, with the rear braking handled by either v-brakes or disc with a longer cable housing.

The bike itself is my old trusty 26" wheeled On-One Inbred mountain bike (size 18inch, good quality steel frame), with set of Surly rigid steel touring forks.

Drivetrain is Shimano Alfine 8 speed hub gears, which suits the bike really well as you can change gears while stationary, and the ratios are perfect with a wide range. Front single chainset is Shimano LX (175mm crank)

Brakes are disc, front Magura Julie (quite old but still works well), and Shimano Deore at the rear. I needed to source an extra large rear disc to work with the xtracycle kit.
Tyres are Schwalbe Big Apple and the Mudguards are full SKS.

Mechanically the bike is perfect, although the front wheel hub may need replacing soon. It has a few scratches but nothing too unsightly.

The Xtracycle Freeradical kit comprises the frame, the racks, a Flight Deck (the rear board that you sit on), and the super capacious panniers, but this one comes with a few extras, including Footsies, a Wideloader for carrying extra bulky items, a rack clamp to keep things more secure, and best of all, a Hooptie, which allows two or even three small children to ride along but with each with something secure to hold on to with both hands.

Wideloader (not two, just one) https://www.bikeshophub.com/product/xtracycle-wideloader-rack-p-1424.html

The footsies are mounted higher up on the frame than they normally would be, so that small childrens' feet can reach 'em, but that's easily reversed.

The complete bike with all the kit is for sale at €550. Never seen another one of these for sale in the last year or two, and a very affordable way into a complete cargo bike.

I’d also be willing to sell it without the Hooptie if you have no children to carry but want to live a car-free lifestyle ;-), but as I say I’d prefer it to sell the whole kit and caboodle together.

I'm in Celbridge, Co Kildare. The bike is currently in south Dublin so if you're Dublin-based and you want to see it this weekend (and with a view to taking it there and then), we could probably work something out.

Does that work now? Always found attaching pics on here a bit fiddly. What do people normally do?
