Set in the Jumper Universe this is one of two spin offs series coming from that film.

Watched the first two episodes. it's surprisingly good like a mix of veronica mars and Jessica Jones. Quite a forgettable name for the series though.

YouTube Red, man I'd forgot that was even a thing, let alone that they were trying to make 'legitimate' drama content on top of the blithering PewDeePie style garbage it generally had. Can't help but think it'll go the way of Sony's Playstation only content. Youtube's a huge platform, but I don't think there's an equally huge overlap of potential subscribers. I'd say a lot of content creators would prefer the service to sort out its monetisation issues first...

Anyway, as to the show. A spinoff of Jumper, yikes that's dredging the mid2000s.

It took awhile to recognize Harm from JAG.

A couple of episodes in and I'm enjoying it.

Although I would like to see more of the bigger Jumper Universe.

    Ok! Finished!

Overall, the show felt like it went where it wanted and didn't lose track. It felt a bit like a cross between a Superhero / Hero journey with a Teenager show and then mix in the style of the TV show Banshee!

    When they say:
This program contains content that may not be suitable for all audiences

    They mean:
This program contains content that may not be suitable for all audiences!

    Right. Anyway.

That finished up strong. I think they made a good decision
not to show what Bill Boone looked like after that last teleport!

That scene and the scene I mentioned above
    the end of episode 4

I think they set up an usual feeling (or maybe a new background to a)
heros journey and we've finished out with with Henry starting to accept it
    .

Where I think this show made it hard on the audience was all the
lying to and from different people at different levels at different time.
Like I get it.. I see what they were doing and they did it well but damn my head was starting to get wrecked keeping track
of who knew (or had a bad version) of the what where when etc.

Where it goes from here. I'd guess:
    -
that beach is where her Dad lives now "off the radar" or something
    -
the big bad organisation will be coming for them
    -
the local mobs (Boones and Millers) will also be coming for them but ultimately get taken out by the big organisation
    -
Clay moving over to his mother... hrmmm another mob from another town story maybe?
    -
the woman Bill Boone tried to stay with.. maybe was his sister? might have a part to play now he's dead. looked afraid.. so maybe again another mob?

    that was his
employee who he was hooking up with from an earlier episode

what I want to know is who is
the guy that Cleo was talking to in the bar and if he has more of a story https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0022351/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_i54

    and who is the mysterious
girl/hacker that Townes has been talking to

Season 2 is out I watched the first episode and it could have done with a 5 minute recap.

Doug Liman directed the opening episode to season 2.

(first episode is free on youtube.. embedded at the bottom of this post. links: CENSORED version UNCENSORED version)

Sounds good. He did Edge of Tomorrow right?
Season 2 is out I watched the first episode and it could have done with a 5 minute recap.
Couldn't find one. Looks like either it ain't a popular show or google/youtube shot themselves in the foot by copyright claiming any fan videos... I wouldn't put it past the not-popular cos I don't remember a lot of chatter.

    Attempted Recap:
Pieced this together from the wikipedia summary, a season review and finale review:
    wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impulse_(TV_series)
Impulse follows 16-year-old Henrietta Coles who discovers she has the ability to mentally move objects as well as teleport
but has no control over her destination. The first time she realizes this, she is in a truck with her high school's basketball captain and star, Clay Boone, who tries to rape her. She has a seizure and teleports, in the course of which she inadvertently crushes him with her inherent telekinesis and teleports for the first time, leaving him a paraplegic. The show goes on to explore Henry's need to reconcile what her assaulter tried to do with the consequence, and her feelings about discovering she can teleport and psionically move objects from a distance, which are triggered by her feelings of fear regarding the assault.
    season review - https://www.indiewire.com/2018/06/impulse-youtube-premium-review-jumper-tv-show-1201972244/
Henry isn’t alone in figuring out the mystery of this newfound power for which she has few words to describe. Her estranged would-be stepsister Jenna (Sarah Desjardins) and observant classmate Townes (Daniel Maslany) gradually take a vested interest in not only solving the mystery behind Henry‘s unexpected talent but trying to give her a psychological toolkit for understanding the other experiences she continues to relive.

In a storytelling approach reminiscent of another recent survivor story, Jennifer Fox’s “The Tale,” Henry revisits her memories of the assault, imagining alternate outcomes and questioning her own path forward. The day-to-day demands of high school life and the pitfalls of keeping her teleportation a secret give her plenty of other things to focus on, but “Impulse” doesn’t lose sight of the idea that she’s still trying to rationalize how something like that could have happened.

While the show is also focused on Henry’s story, “Impulse” takes the time to build out other strands within this greater world. A French-speaking family is on the run from would-be trackers. Police officer Anne Hulce (Enuka Okuma) begins to investigate suspicious deaths in Henry‘s hometown. It’s a lot for the show to bite off at once, but at least it starts early, rather than waiting for those stories to overlap with a breathless rehash of how we got there.
    finale review - https://www.indiewire.com/2018/06/impulse-youtube-ending-season-1-spoilers-1201974747/
Henry saving Clay from his burning house doesn’t magically redeem the latter in the scope of the show, either. Clay still sees himself as a victim, harboring blind animosity that will no doubt grow if he also holds Henry responsible for Bill’s gruesome end. (Though, given the car dealers current state of “being dissolved in a tub of acid,” that’s certainly no guarantee.) “Impulse” shows how Clay going through an unexpected change could cloud his perception of what happened before and after the accident, but his own behavior continues to condemn him. As Henry’s visions start to rework her own attack, it shows how it’s even coloring her perception of Jenna’s (Sarah Desjardins) own emerging relationship.

Finding Nikolai (Callum Keith Rennie; for our purposes, we’ve been unofficially calling the character Dr. Fishbowl) in a drafty barn hints at the idea that he has a vested interest in keeping the violence in Henry’s wake a secret. Should the story move forward, he might even be able to help her get a firmer grasp on the power that she’s still resorting to drastic measures to engage. Just as the idea that someone’s limb could make a jump without the rest of the person’s body, there are untold layers to Henry’s teleportation, ones that could help it become more a gift than a burden.
    and
Should the show come back for Season 2, the introduction of Danny Pudi and Zack Pearlman as grunt-level employees of a mysterious organization points to some of that same spirit on the other side of things. No matter where Henry’s focus takes her, whether at school or through the inner workings of this new agency — that somehow knows the whereabouts and status of jumpers the world over — it’s already mitigated some of the danger of getting too self-important.

Yet that doesn’t come at the expense of some real consequences for the intertwining manhunt and drug trade that loomed over Season 1. Characters like Jeremiah’s son Amos are still dead and what remains of Bill’s shoulder is still separated from the rest of his body, mere seconds away from taking the life from at least one member of the Cole family.

    Embeds of the Episodes:
Currently the first episode of season 2 is free on youtube. Two versions.. cos they censored one? .. I dunno why, I haven't watched either yet.

1: Yes, strong start. Definitely could've used a recap.

    Thought the last moments were
a dream at first but was half guessing it was real. Strange how her powers seemed to seamless.

Ok finished season 2 and as the story moved on I started to remember season 1. I will say it really did need a recap.

Season is strong and starts to open up the Jumper world with that ending.

really enjoying this only started on the first season last week but flying through the episodes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

    2.2: Feels like
Nikolai is fully going against his organisation and wants to level Henry up to defend herself against it.

    My guess right now,
based on the container experiment would be that the organisation is military based and wants a way of jumping a bunch of troops into battle!

    Looks like
levelling her up is gonna be a **** process for her.

Not sure what's gonna happen with
Lucas... but they're keeping his story going so it's gotta be something!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

    2.3: Not sure what
he's trying to do to the cop. Discredit her maybe to get her off his case for a bit.
I guess the Lucas story is gonna be a slow burn up to some violence.

    Henry
definitely going through a process of transformation.

    Jenna
seems to be.. I dunno.. working things out? Feels like that could take a turn.

2.4: What a well placed back story for Nikolai
Kinda made it look like all jumpers share a similar disposition at the time they get their powers. I'm guessing it's this drug that gets developed which helps control it.

Thought the casting was off with the younger sister not feeling right for what her older version looks like.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

    2.5:
Level Up! So now she's getting some control but it feels like they're raising the danger levels or maybe reducing the safety net at the same

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

2.6: That felt like a relief because it felt like this was progress on the storylines.
Lucas moving on and Henry getting more control and figuring out messaging for her father.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

    2.7: Well.. I guess it's
the Church of Henry of Latter Plot Development
    :D

So that feels like it's narrowing down the story to be
a showdown between everyone versus Nikolai's sister

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

    2.8: Ah here! Is
the mother gonna die?! "You're what keeps me safe" .. is that like the "I'm two days from retirement" line for this show?

Noticed that the episode felt like it:
    -
ramped up a feeling of unusually good things are happening
    -
set off a bomb of lots of bad things are happening
    -
set up to begin with a new kinda lower level baseline

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

    2.9: What a place to
leave the cop! She'd want to go back for her or she'll starve or fall!

Still not feeling an epic conclusion coming unless
it's all gonna kick of with the Dad taking on Nikolais sister.

just finished season 2. Surprised how they made the protagonist a bit dislikeable compared to the first season. I fear there will no season 3 cos of the platform its on.

2.10: Boom! Really strong finish! Like.. given my reaction to 2.9.. unexpected for me anyway.

Looking forward to a season 3 if there is one.
I fear there will no season 3 cos of the platform its on.
    Hrmmm.. hopefully
Surprised how they made the protagonist a bit dislikeable compared to the first season.
It feels like they are going for a Heroine's journey.. maybe.. it's always felt like a harder and longer journey to me since I remember first hearing it described.
