to answer your question the most of these unusual brand names are Chinese, now as regards the W/pool deep freezer how do you know it is down in refrigerant, is it a chest freezer or upright or frost free. with this hot weather freezers need plenty ventilation with nothing obstructing air flow otherwise they will cook

If ice king are Chinese are they a reputable brand?? We rang an engineer and he suggested the whirlpool is low in gas and it may have a leak which would be hard to find.. The red light is on for over a week. We defrosted it and switched it back on. It is well ventilated where it is stored. Any suggestion of what else could be wrong with it would be welcomed.

It is a free standing chest freezer

if the red light is on and the compressor is running the w/p engineer is right in saying it is down in gas, it is an issue which cant be corrected as the leaks are always in internal piping.as regards Chinese products you may be lucky even w/p freezers are made in prc (China) Generally speaking Italian refrigeration products are far more relianle

Thanks for your response. Do you know what brand of chest freezers are available in Ireland that are made in Italy??

Generally Zanussi and Electrolux are still manufactured in Italy.

On most appliances on the label on it you will find the country where it was made.

Interesting that your 3 year old Whirlpool freezer has low gas as my 4 year old upright Whirlpool freezer is also low on gas. Hasn't been auto defrosting for a couple of months now and motor is running constantly. No red light though. Paid a serviceman €50 euro to be told it's not repairable. Surely Whirlpool should stand over relatively new freezers running out of gas? Very poor return on money spent.

The rest of my appliances are Bosch and I've no issues with them. Think I'll go with a Bosch freezer now.

Hi. Can Anyone recommend Powerpoint freezers? I can't find much information about them.

They'd be Chinese made freezers also. Brand is owned by a company called Shomar in Dublin.

Probably not. My fridge freezer is Electrolux and over ten years old. My chest freezer is also Electrolux and is over 15 years old, so I'd probably aim to get similar again whenever they fail (not soon, I hope!)

Which, I suppose aligns with The Red Ace's educated advice about Italian refrigeration.
