I have a bag in the shed a year or two and it turned to a lump of chalk.

I beat the hell out of it and mixed it up and used it to hold a fence post.
It looked good but will it cure or is it spoiled from age / air / moisture from
    An open bag ?

It no biggie if it doesn’t work

Yes pretty much any building materials go bad, Plaster , Skimcoat, Cement etc. Usual shelf life of 12 months depending on storage conditions.

Any damp, sawdust or whatever getting on the bags will shorten the lifespan dramatically.

I might be ok as it’s only for a fence post, it’s looking ok ish. Will know in a day or two

How long does it take cement to cure / set ?
