Probably the type of deal many here have been waiting for - a major sports organisation has sold exclusive rights to an international broadcaster who intend to market it as a stand-alone product on a streaming service.

Sky will keep U.K. rights until the end of 2021, and the majors sell their rights separately to the tours, but a huge blow to their Sky Sports Golf channel.

Discovery have the Olympics rights for Europe as well, starting with the Winter Olympics just past. BBC had a deal to sub-license so maybe there is some scope down the line for some deals to be shaken out of the tree.

Another reason why their branded sports channels are stupid. They will be doing everything the can to keep the European Tour. Those rights run out this year.

Big difference with the olympics is that it a certain amount must be shown on FTA television in a lot of countries.

I presumed there would be a difference alright...just wondered out loud if it might be possible.

They will be losing most of the US stuff (Masters and US Open aside) under this deal from start of 2022 onwards, I appreciate that’s still a long way away!

The European Tour contract is up at the end of this year.
