    Hi all,

    Advice needed.

A neighbour of mine recently purchased their property, few weeks in now and he has purchased what I estimate as 100 9inch solid blocks. It seems he is either constructing a shed or laying a patio out the back.

Does he need planning permission for this work? There is a 7ft wall between us but now he has laid the blocks he can tower over the wall and almost like he is standing in our garden! I don't have any personal issue with them, I say hello and am polite. I think as its a permanent structure there should be some sort of sign in the front garden with details of proposed works?

I'm living in a housing estate, semi detached 3 bed.

Properties are not listed buildings etc.

    Any advice would be helpful.

    ..
Does he need planning permission for this work?
Not usually. Subject to compliance with exempted development. http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/2001/si/600/made/en/print#sched2

are the Houses floor levels ‘stepped’ or is this just while he’s got scaffolding up?

    not necessarily, see link above.

    Suggest you,

Talk to your Neighbour and find out what’s being constructed

    Read the link above

Check original planning application for the estate.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

There garden is much higher than ours, when I look out my window I can just see above the wall, however, I would say my neighbour can easily see me sitting at my kitchen table such is the height difference. I am not sure what it is he is constructing, I may find out if I happen to talk to him out the back, all I can see is lots of solid blocks and he ordered good few loads of sand.

I assume it will be a a patio area, but my concern is, after laying the blocks when he walks on them he can literally tower over our garden whilst walking around, I find that very intrusive.

I plan to put some shrubs up or flower baskets but not sure if that will help.

Suggest you ask your landlord to talk to the Neighbour https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=106135163
