What is the function on a camera that allows it to take photos automatically, i.e. press button once, photos taken every X seconds until button is released?

I did this once with someone's mobile phone. Took about 70 photos in under 10 seconds. :pac:

Shutter speed. Can take multiple photos quickly, or one photo over 30 seconds or longer to capture more light (good at night).

Burst mode or continuous mode in some cameras

Shutter speed is usually the amount of time the shutter stays open for each photo.
The OP is more talking about burst shots, or the slower version being time lapse.

The OP wants to take multiple shots for as long as he holds down the trigger. Burst takes a set amount of shots for one trigger press.

Victor; it can often depend on the lightening to get a good shot, but if you have the camera set at a good ISO during the day, you can set the shutter speed to be as fast as you want, but the faster it is, the darker an image can be.

    Nope.

What you want is intervalometer (always spell that wrong, thanks spellcheck). The likes of ML give you the feature on bodies that Canon elects to remove it from to upsell you.
