I am due to get a root canal at the dentist in the next few weeks.

    Is it a painful procedure?

How much roughly will it cost?

Is it possible to have it done in one appointment?

I put having one off for YEARS because of dentist terror.

    No it does not hurt.

Your dentist can only give you specific answers to the rest.

Im sorry I didnt do it sooner - the pain of having the problem was huge and the relief of having the tooth fixed and no pain again was just amazing.

I put off having the fancy long term cosmetic bit done after the root canal (I think its called the crown) and again - I was sorry I left it so long. Its just a ceramic fancy cover moulded on your tooth that goes over the root canal tooth when it is finished. You have to wait for the rroot canal to be done and settle before this is aďed. You also need to get a mould so the shape and colour with your other teeth matches. Its 100% pain free.

There were two different prices for the root canal and then for the crown with my dentist. So I had the pain relief root canal done first and about 10 yeas later got the crown. Because there was such a gap between having both done for me I dont know what the contemporary prices are or should be - but at the time I got tax relief for the work and tax back. The system may have changed due to stingy screw them all government policy since - your dentist or the taxman should be able to tell you what is eligible for tax relief.

Best of luck. Just do it!
Implants are a big mess to get and can fail and are FAR FAR more expensive. :(

My new root canal.and crown(ed) tooth looks PERFECT and you would never guess it was a crown which was a big worry with me.

I have heard of people travelling to get dental work done but I have also heard of too many problem stories with that to take the risk. For one tooth in a non emergency context (like whre I dodnt need 8 done due to a car crash or somethinh) I personally wouldnt take the risk.

Welp, I came across this at the right time! I'm getting a root canal on Tuesday. Good luck with yours, OP.

There are no dental procedures that should be painful as such. The worst pain is usually when they inject the anaesthetic into your gum.

I didn't go to the dentist for a few years and didn't look after my teeth so I had to get a few root canals done when I finally went to the dentist. I didn't find them painful just weird when they are carrying out the procedure. If you do feel any pain during the procedure then say it to the dentist or the nurse and they will more than likely give you another injection to numb the area. This only happened to me once but it was a difficult area that they had to inject me in. They just gave me another injection and I couldn't feeling anything after the second one. Best of luck with it OP it's not going to be as bad as you think you'll be grand

Had one a few years ago and not painful at all, just a sore jaw from holding mouth open for a while :)

Some patients do experience some pain during the procedure.
It's likely you'll have some pain and tenderness afterwards.

Not possible to do it in one visit.
Likely will take two visits minimum.

    Cost varies.
If molar or premolars it's highly likely you will also need some form of cuspal coverage e.g crown, onlay.

Had dentist terror for ages. Met a nice dentist man. Only thing that hurts is the injection and at that iv had pinches that hurt more

Mine was pain free. The dentist even put a dab of numbing gel on the gum before the injection so I didn't feel a thing. The sensation of cleaning out the tooth is a bit weird, but you quickly get used to it.

I'm in my early 40's and the dentist experience has improved a LOT since I was a kid :)

I had a molar root canal redone a few months ago.
He even showed me pictures of the inside of the tooth:)
