What kind of aerial is this?

    Hi guys

Anyone able to advise what the attached aerial is please?

Just bought a house and hoping to take this down and replace with a Saorview aerial using the existing cabling if possible. I'm interested to know what it is though before I remove it. I don't think the cable from it is attached to anything right now but haven't had a chance to get a ladder yet to check.

    Thanks.

Looks like a wireless internet antenna, we had a similar one for Ice Broadband many years ago before they went bust.

IIRC isn't the cabling to that antenna ethernet and not co-ax, if so no good for Saorview.

Totally agree is 100% a broadband aerial possibly ICE broadband as suggested and similar was used also by BBNET in around Limerick and clare.. Ice broadband did use coax from memory so its possible it might be possible to use.

    Definitely a broadband aerial.

Thanks for the responses and for satisfying my curiosity. I hope to get a closer look at the cable in the coming week and see if it's coax and trace where it's going.

Interested to know what cable is running up to that antenna. My guess is Cat5 and not coax. If Cat5 then there is a PoE router in the back of the antenna.

If it is a Digiweb Metro antenna it may be coax.

If it's coax, it will be for 50 ohm impedence. TV uses 75 ohms. Only use it will be is to pull in the right cable.

If it's an ice broadband which is looks like they use ct100 and not 50ohm cable

Found our old Ice Broadband antenna in the shed yesterday, just checked it now and it's an Alvarion.

Did any of the MMDS operators ever use flat antennae?
I know there were some quite small antennae used towards the end of days of MMDS.

Never saw flat antennas in my area for MMDS only the standard mesh and these "duck-bill" ones in Limerick city, a strong signal area receiving from Woodcock Hill

Same aerial as the top MMDS aerial as shown in pic can also be used for Broadband they were even made in the same factory in wicklow....hardly ever used any more as newer and more reliable tech has come onto the market...
