Which car?

Not the C Class IMO. Bills will be on another level to the Civic in terms of price and frequency and it much nicer of a car to be entertaining the extra costs.

Those Civics are generally very highly regarded on here, seriously reliable cars, at last count I think 12 regular posters here (including me :P) have one?

Some say the i-shift semi automatic (in the 1.8 hatchbacks only) isn't a great gearbox in terms of driveability. In all reality it's fine. It's not quick to change gear but no more wishy washy than any torque converter box I've driven. You just have to remember it is effectively an actuated manual 6 speed box so it will roll backwards when doing a hill start if you don't use the handbrake and you shouldn't hold the car on the brake pedal at traffic lights etc.

The Hybrids seem interesting but they are slow (13 seconds to 100kmh?) and although not popular, Hybrid battery seems be be starting to age and weaken in some older models. They can be refurbed but that might take the good out of the car? The 1.8 is very economical and there is a reasonable amount of power for the size of car.
