Booking your own flights/hotels Vs Trailfinders. Which do you prefer for solo travel?

I'm just curious. Trailfinders seem to be very popular with Irish solo travelers.

I'm off on my first non work solo travel soon and the more and more I have to look at hotel sites and skyscanner etc, the more I feel like handing it over to Trailfinders to help out

What do you prefer? Booking your own stuff or using Trailfinders?

Did Trailfinders work out more expensive?

I love booking my own flights and hotels. It's part of the fun before the trip even starts! Researching hotels etc and then finding great deals via discount codes, skyscanner etc. I personally love it!

I love doing it too normally. But my current planned itinerary - Thailand and a little more of SE Asia - is such a vast area of research to cover.

That and the likes of Trailfinders can usually beat even SkyScanner when it comes to traveling where you're racking up a serious amount of air miles.

Lots of pros and cons to both I think

I love the planning part of a trip and have travelled solo extensively. It does take a bit more time, but I’m always inspired by the little sidetracks I make when doing the research.

Yep, another one here who loves all the planning and researching. Have always booked my own trips and have never had a problem.

Only a single data point but i popped into trail finders recently to ask a question and get a price on a fare. I’d already looked it up online so knew what i could get it for and trailfinders was more expensive.

Would also be in the DIY camp for booking holidays and trips. As others have stated there's definitely a joy to doing your own research and with a world of information at your fingertips on the net it makes it very easy to get a range of opinions on places.

I also try and always book flights directly with airlines than going through a middleman as it gives you more control of your booking (check in, seat selection and other additions to your booking, refunds for flight cancellation etc).

When I was going to Thailand, Australia, New Zealand and the US, Trailfinders were much cheaper than trying to get flights myself.

    I booked hotels myself though.

For flights from Dublin -> Bangkok -> Australia -> Dublin I was quoted 1,200 euros by Trailfinders. For a return ticket!

I found that very impressive. However, for that price it's a airticket with rigid dates. To cancel or re arrange them costs around 200 euros per change

I dont think it's for me as I don't know when or if I'll be doing Thailand -> Australia yet.

But it's still a great price for anyone who can stick to a very set itinerary
