Docs related to the TT on ITV from Monday to Thursday this week at 9pm, then highlights each night from Friday at 9pm too.

I think its profile is rising, probably helped by the great Guy Martin fronted doc, 'closer to the edge'.

Would love to go to it someday even though I have no real interest in cars, let alone bikes. But there is something fascinating about the TT races.

First time in years didn't know it was on til I saw your post. Never saw a mention of it at all!

Go to the Northwest 200 or the Race of the south for a taster. Good as a once off but ya see way more on the Telly.

Love the IOM TT maybe one year i'll go over and watch it alot of the high speed sections are closed to spectators due to the dangers of lads coming off bike's and mowing down somebody. Dan Kneen was killed today in practice on 1000cc tyco BMW superbike coming on a very fast section of the course called ramsey.

I'll just expand on what I said earlier. I think they doc "Closer to the Edge" is a big reason.

Check out any threads on recommedned documentaries on here, reddit and other places and it will always pop up. So there is strong word of mouth there to people who might not have any interest in motor racing.

Also Guy Martin has appeared on other TV shows so is crossing into the mainstream, bear in mind I've no real interest in cars and I know him. He is a character and comes across well on telly.

Plus I think in today's modern world of hypersensitivity, and the often OTT health and safety in everything we do and all the fear of being sued, compensation culture and all the rest of it, the fact that there is STILL this sporting event where people die almost every year creates a huge mystique around it.

The fact it hasn't been shut down yet or sanitised makes it seem like it is from another world.

There aren't many things like that around now, well not as much anyway. The fun police, PC brigade etc get involved and can ruin things.

The comedian Bill Burr was talking about it on his podcast, he is playing in the 3 areana next week, I think he might even be at it. His mind was blown that something that dangerous still exists and wants to see it before does change.

When he tells other people about it when he has guests on his podcast they can't believe it either.

It's that type of word of mouth/barstool talk /dinner party conversation topic that is getting it out to a wider, newer, open-mouthed audience.

Actually think it's criminal that rte never do a program on road racing to be honest.
It's unique to Ireland n the isle of Man. It's practically a religion up the north.
Nah, we'll just do another program on horse racing instead - people are crying out for another one!

Isn't the NW200 the biggest one day sporting event on the island of Ireland? And the only way it'll get a mention on RTE, or any of the media in the Republic, is if someone is killed.

Prince William is visiting the TT .You had the 2 movies including the Dunlop movie.

It all helps to raise the profile .I just think it's undervalued atm.

It seems to me like Hickman Harrison and Dunlop are really raising the bar and putting daylight between themselves and the rest in racing terms although hutchinson would surely be at their level fitness permitting.

Hickie in the SSTK was unbelievable, ran wide and gave himself an 11 second time penalty
    but came back to win
